The Decoration

2026-03-04

I was carrying the braised duck Finn loves, my steps light as I headed toward the marital home renovation site — in just seven days, this would be our home. The sliding door left a crack open, and suddenly I heard his voice, thick with undisguised disdain: "Flora Lynn really thinks I'd decorate the ceiling with a starry sky just because she wants it?" Just as my heart sank, I heard his voice again, sickeningly gentle: "It has to be Whitney's way — soft apricot walls with white sheer curtains, that's comfortable." Whitney Scott, his ex-girlfriend. I gripped the hand holding the braised duck tighter and tighter, realizing that the marital home I'd longed for day and night never truly had room for me.收起

Chapter 1 of "The Decoration"

A week before the handover of our marital home, the evening breeze carried the warmth of early summer, brushing softly against my face. I took a day off from work, carrying the braised duck Finn Collins loves, walking briskly towards the renovation site. In seven days, this two-bedroom apartment will be completely finished—our marital home, the place I'd pictured in my mind countless nights. I had even planned that on moving day, I'd put a fiddle-leaf fig by the entrance and place a photo of the two of us on the living room coffee table. As I approached the renovation site's door, I noticed the sliding door wasn't fully shut, leaving a gap. Inside, I heard the electric drill stop, immediately followed by a voice I knew all too well — Finn Collins's voice. My hand, which had been reaching to push the door open, froze in midair. "You should have seen how excited Flora Lynn was when she first talked about wanting a starry sky ceiling." Finn's tone was thick with undisguised contempt, as if he was talking about something utterly ridiculous: "Her eyes were shining like crazy. Did she really think I'd go along with what she wanted?" "Finn, aren't you afraid Flora Lynn will find out you secretly changed the design plan?" The one speaking was David Carter, Finn's childhood friend, who had previously helped pick out the renovation materials. My heart sank suddenly, and my fingers unconsciously clenched the bag of braised duck so tightly the plastic crinkled—I didn't even notice. "So what if she finds out?" Finn scoffed, his tone dripping with confidence, "She can't live without me." "You know perfectly well—after her leg injury, she quit her job and now depends completely on me." After a pause, Finn Collins's tone suddenly softened, becoming so gentle it seemed to drip with warmth, completely different from the scornful attitude he'd just shown: "Besides, the house's style has to suit Whitney's taste." Whitney had mentioned before that she liked light apricot-colored walls paired with white sheer curtains—that way, the sunlight shining through feels just right. Whitney — Whitney Scott, Finn's ex-girlfriend. My ears were buzzing, like a swarm of bees flying inside them. I remembered how excited I was when I told Finn I wanted a starry sky ceiling. I was holding the design plan and pointing to the ceiling spot, saying, "Look, when the lights come on at night, it's like lying under a starry sky. So romantic!" Back then, Finn laughed and ruffled my hair, saying, "Alright, we'll do it your way—for our marital home, it has to be exactly what you like." So all that tenderness was just a lie. "Does Flora Lynn know she's only a stand-in?" David asked again, his tone tinged with a bit of amusement, like he was watching a show. "She doesn't need to know." Finn's voice turned cold. "As long as she stays obediently by my side, that's all that matters." Once the house is finished, Whitney will definitely be happy to come back. "By then, it'll be the right time for me to lay everything out to Flora Lynn." Every single word felt like a sharp knife, piercing deep into my heart. I froze at the doorstep, my hands and feet going cold, and even breathing became difficult. It turned out that the marital home I'd dreamed of day and night was never meant for me from the start; The love I had carefully guarded was just a bargaining chip Finn used to get Whitney to come back; I realized that in Finn's heart, I was never Flora Lynn — just a replacement for Whitney. The voices inside kept going, but I couldn't hear what David was saying anymore. I suddenly felt my vision darken, tears welling up uncontrollably and streaming down my cheeks, dropping onto the back of my hand, cold as ice. I didn't push the door open to confront him, nor did I call out. I quietly took a step back, turned around, and walked away, one step at a time. The ground beneath my feet felt like it was filled with lead; every step was so heavy I could barely breathe. The braised duck in my hand was still warm, but my heart felt as cold as ice.

A Secret Surname

"Georgina, Debra is pregnant." When my husband Jeff said this, he didn't even look up at me; his finger gently brushed over Debra's belly. I flipped to the next non-disclosure agreement that needed handling, the tip of my pen never pausing. "I'll arrange the surgery and the hush money." "This time, it's different." He finally looked at me, his eyes colder than I had ever seen: "I want this child." I put down my pen and glanced at the young secretary hiding behind him, her eyes gleaming with triumph. Debra suddenly started crying, clutching his sleeve. "Jeff, I'm afraid... will Georgina hurt our baby?" He immediately pulled her closer, glaring at me furiously: "Georgina! Dare to lay a hand on her, and see what happens!" I smiled, took a document from my bag, and gently slid it across to him. "Look at this first, then decide if you want to...

That Final Daddy

On the eve of the holiday, Luna wanted a strawberry cake and Lucy asked for an iced soda. I had just agreed to their requests when Melody, who had just finished a phone call, said, "A major client wants to meet. My promotion to director depends on this—I have to go." "Cancel it! The kids have been looking forward to visiting the reed marsh for a whole week!" I pulled her back. "This is an opportunity I've waited three years for!" She shrugged me off. "The bee venom allergy medicine is by the entrance—don't be careless." With that, she rushed out the door. The next day, at the reed marsh, Luna and Lucy ran into the wildflower patch. But within ten minutes, they were crying and shouting about bees. I ran over and saw purple-tinged red welts on their arms. Only then did I realize I had forgotten to bring...

His Obsession

The blade pressed against my neck. Brian's voice drifted out of the darkness: "Keep an eye on her, leave her alive, stick to the original plan." I struggled. The masked man clamped a hand over my mouth. In the shadows, Brian's eyes blazed with nothing but crazed possessiveness. When I opened my eyes again, Alex was leaning over me: "Mia, I'll get you out of here—you just have to ask your dad to help my family's company." "You colluded with Brian?" I gritted my teeth, the metallic tang of blood filling my mouth. His face shifted. He forced a calm expression: "Don't talk nonsense! I'm truly here to save you." The door slammed open suddenly. Brian kicked Alex away and pulled me into his arms. "Stay away from her." Brian's voice was cold as ice, but when he turned to me, his tone softened: "Mia, I'm taking you home." I...

"Dr. Smith, my... my boyfriend wants to ask you to perform a private part plastic surgery." Ruby stood in front of me, her eyes darting about, and her voice trembling with a faint, barely noticeable quiver. I looked up, frowning. "This type of surgery requires the patient to apply in person." "He... he really can't make it. Dr. Smith, please!" She was so anxious that she was on the verge of tears, and the medical record she was clutching in her hand was almost crushed out of shape. I hesitated for a moment, but in the end, my heart softened. On the day of the surgery, I put on a mask and got ready to start. However, the moment the patient took off his mask, I froze—It was actually my husband, Bill! "You... why are you here?" The scalpel in my hand nearly slipped, and my voice was filled with...

I Funded His Dream, He Funded Her Life

I stared at Mary Xavier's young, innocent face right in front of me, while Casper Johnson stood behind her, smoking, his eyes gliding lazily over my clenched fists. "Who is she?" Mary Xavier shook Casper Johnson's arm. "A friend." He sneered, "Keeps pestering me." My voice shook. "Casper, I'm pregnant." There was a moment of silence. Casper Johnson flicked the cigarette butt away, stepped closer, his voice low and venomous: "Pregnant? Just have an abortion." "You said if I got pregnant, we'd get married..." "I lied to you." He cut me off, leaned in closer, his breath hot against my ear. He pulled out a wad of cash and stuffed it into my coat pocket. "Surgery costs. Stay out of sight—don't spoil things between Mary and me."收起
