I clutch the abortion diagnosis slip and stand at the villa gate, her coquettish giggles drifting out from inside. I push the door open. Brian Jones is drying her hair, snowflakes still clinging to the hem of his coat. "Brian, why is she back?" Nora snuggles into his arms, her tone dripping with provocation. Brian lifts his eyes, his gaze cold and indifferent. "Who allowed you to come back?" I fling the diagnosis slip in front of him. "Brian, our baby is gone." He doesn't even spare it a glance; instead, his brows furrow tightly. "I told you not to bother me with this nonsense. Nora caught a chill from skiing—I don't have time for you." "Your child!" My voice trembles. "While you were indulging in pleasure with her, I was losing him all alone in the hospital!" Nora lets out a scoffing laugh. "Hannah, Brian only has me in his heart. Losing this baby is a relief for everyone." Brian wraps his arm around her, his voice turning sharp and harsh. "Behave yourself. If you want to stay in the Jones Family, know your place. One more outburst, and you're out." I stare at the two of them, the searing pain in my chest turning into a bitter, icy coldness. "Out? This is far from over." Brian raises an eyebrow, his face twisted with undisguised contempt. "What do you think you can do?"收起

Chapter 1 of "Beyond Past Shadows"

The cramping pain in my abdomen felt like countless needles piercing me as I curled up on the hospital bed, cold sweat soaking through my patient gown. The nurse came in holding the test results, her tone calm and flat. "Hannah Lynn, I'm very sorry, but the fetus didn't make it. You've had a natural miscarriage." I froze for a moment, then tears fell silently onto the blanket. This was the child Brian and I were expecting—just six weeks along. A nearby caregiver whispered, "Should we call Mr. Jones? Maybe he should come over." I shook my head, my fingertips icy cold. I know where he is. This morning, I saw Nora Scott's post on W Chat, tagged at the H Road ski resort. In the photos, she was nestled in Brian Jones's arms, her smile radiant. They were skiing, enjoying the winter sun, while I was here, losing our child. In the evening, Brian's mother, Luna Carter, came. She didn't glance at me once, sitting directly on the sofa, her tone thick with undisguised contempt. "Hannah Lynn, I told you before, you're not worthy of a place in the Jones Family." I clutched the blanket tightly and whispered, "Mom, I..." "Don't call me Mom. I can't handle that." Luna Carter cut me off, "If you hadn't been so persistent, why would Brian have married you? Nora is the true daughter-in-law of the Jones Family." "The child is gone—that's your fate. It has nothing to do with Nora." She added coldly. I closed my eyes and swallowed the words I was about to say. There was no point in arguing; in her eyes, I was always in the wrong. I was hospitalized for three days, and Brian didn't come once. On the day she was discharged, the family driver came to pick her up. As soon as she walked through the villa gate, laughter and chatter filled the living room. Brian Jones was sitting on the sofa with Nora Scott. At Nora's feet lay a pair of skis, and she was still wearing Brian's jacket. "Brian, look at this photo. It turned out really well." Nora handed her phone to Brian, her voice playfully teasing. Brian cupped her chin, his eyes full of affection: "Mm, when someone's beautiful, every photo looks good." The moment their eyes landed on me, the smiles vanished immediately. Brian Jones stood up and walked toward me step by step, still carrying the chill of the snowfall. "You're back?" His tone was cold and indifferent, as if addressing a mere servant. I nodded, my throat tightening. "The child is gone. That's for the best." He said lightly, "Saves us trouble later on." My heart clenched sharply as I looked up at him. "Brian, that was your child too." "My child?" He sneered, "I never once acknowledged that child." Nora Scott walked over, linking her arm with Brian Jones, and looked at me provocatively: "Hannah Lynn, don't be too upset. Brian only has me in his heart. Even if the baby had survived, nothing would have changed." "Nora, don't waste your breath on her." Brian Jones tousled Nora's hair, then turned to me and ordered, "Go wash Nora's ski suit—by hand. No washing machine." I stared at the jacket stained with snow, then glanced down at my still-aching lower abdomen. "I just got out of the hospital. I'm not feeling well." I whispered in protest. "Not feeling well?" Brian Jones raised an eyebrow, reached out and grabbed my chin so hard it hurt. "Hannah Lynn, don't forget your place. You're only allowed to stay with the Jones Family because of my mood." "Are you going or not?" His gaze grew colder. I was forced to nod, tears welling up in my eyes. "That's more like it." He let go, sneering, "After you finish washing the clothes, go to the kitchen and cook. Nora wants her sweet and sour pork ribs." Nora Scott smiled at me smugly, leaning into Brian Jones's embrace. I stepped into the laundry room holding the ski suit. The moment the cold water touched my hand, I couldn't help but shiver. Tears mingled with the water as they fell into the sink—I couldn't tell if they were from pain or sorrow. Luna Carter stood at the doorway, watching me rush about, her tone icy. "Hannah Lynn, behave yourself. Brian's heart belongs only to Nora. No matter what you do, it's pointless." I didn't look up and kept scrubbing the clothes. "Remember your place; don't dream of what isn't yours." After she said that, she turned and left the laundry room. That night, after finishing all my chores, I curled up on the small bed in the guest room. Laughter came from the master bedroom—Nora's laughter, sharp as needles, piercing my heart. I knew that from the moment I lost the child, my life with the Jones Family would only become more difficult.

"Mia, sign it! Cindy's pregnant with my child, and this divorce is a must! " Jimmy slammed the divorce papers on the table. Cindy stood beside him, covering her face and pretending to sob: "Mia, it's all my fault. I'd better leave..." I stared at the two of them, the searing pain of burning to death in my past life still seeming to gnaw at me. I picked up the papers and tore them to shreds right in front of their eyes. "Are you crazy?" Jimmy roared. "It's you who are crazy." I sneered, "This house was my dowry. If anyone's leaving, it's you two." Cindy paled: "What do you mean?" "Either get out right now and never show your faces again, or stay here as a maid to wait on me and your beloved Jimmy." I fixed my gaze on her, my voice icy, "Make your choice." Jimmy's face...

Clutching the sweat-soaked rental contract, I hurried up the worn stairwell toward my "new home," my heart full of hope—only to be met with the landlord's cold face. The Deception of a Thousand Roses

I clutched the copy of the marriage alliance agreement, my fingers trembling as I slammed it down in front of Samuel. "A wedding with a thousand roses? It was all a lie to fool me, wasn't it?" His brows furrowed, his tone still laced with his usual haughtiness. "Nicole, stop being childish. My relationship with Melody is just a stopgap measure." "A stopgap measure?" I laughed, but tears streamed down my cheeks uncontrollably. "What am I then? A toy for you to amuse yourself with when you're bored? Or a pawn to keep you grounded?" He stepped forward, reaching out to touch me, but I dodged him sharply. "I never treated you as a toy," he said, his voice dropping, tinged with a hint of impatience. "Once the project stabilizes, I'll get a divorce." "No need," I stepped back, my gaze firm and resolute. "Samuel, I'm leaving." His eyes turned...

Love from a Deal

The first time I met Bruce River was in Nanny Zimmerman's dark, cramped room. His sleeves were rolled up, his wrists slender, his eyes filled with the despair of his sister close to death. I offered him that almost humiliating bargain: "I can save your sister, but you must be my bed partner." He was silent for a long while, then hoarsely replied, "Fine." At that moment, I did not know that this sordid entanglement would corrode my life for the next twenty years.收起

"Lance Woodward, are you crazy?" I clenched my fists. "This house isn't worth that much." He pulled at the corner of his mouth, full of sarcasm. "What, afraid I can't afford it?" "I just don't get it," I met his gaze. "You clearly hate me, and why are you helping me?" He turned to leave but paused at the door, turning his face slightly, his voice low: "Harper Ferguson, why did you break up with me back then?" My breath hitched. I once thought I'd spend the rest of my life with Leo, but everything went off track after he brought Norman home. "This is Norman; he just turned sixteen. His mom was my best friend in college—she got into a car accident and passed away." "I'm sorry, I won't cause trouble. I can stay in the guest room, and cook for myself..." With his innocence and youthfulness, he gradually made me fall for him. I hated him, pouring out coldness and hostility, yet I couldn't resist his deep affection. "You're disgusting!" I once threw my nightgown fiercely at his face, but he only endured it silently. Three years later, he showed up again, no longer the naive boy he used to be.
